Sept 2020 S. Cape Get-away

So stuffed properly by Covid 19 back in March we had to cancel our long awaited trip back to the Kglalgadi and Botswana – huge depression all round and survive lockdown. We had also booked last year for a return trip to the Southern Cape area near Stanford and the Landmeterskop Farm that the Grand-children had previously enjoyed so much and were fortunate to be able to get away for the week albeit that the weather was not particularly kind. The Southern Cape like the West Coast is always a gamble. In any event it was good to get away from Cape Town with just a short manageable drive of some 160Kms.

We stayed 2 nights at Stanford Manor Lodge which is a very pleasant hotel with an excellent kitchen/Restaurant and when the kids arrived took them up to “The Tasting Room” for lunch at Stanford Wines – very child-friendly and laid back – Major road works with stop go-between Hermanus & Stanford – likely to continue for another two years so sadly the coastal route was a bit of a pain. A Lunch at Birkenhead Brewery too, next to a roaring fire was much appreciated. With that, we all camped off to a shared large house on the Landmeterskop Farm – details of which are in a previous trip report here.

Every Trip has a feature – this was obviously “New Life” – But also the Blue Crane Trip – saw more Blue Cranes than ever before – very happy stealing the sheep feed and pecking the lambs in the head that got in the way.

I’m in the wrong pen……………
